Lhoist North America (LNA) of Fort Worth, TX is tripling its U.S. capacity with the addition of two new Sorbacal SP/SPS hydrators in the U.S. These two new hydration facilities are under construction and both are expected to be commercialized in the first quarter of 2016, in time for utility Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) as well as industrial boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) compliance deadlines. The location for these new facilities will be at LNAs Ste. Genevieve, MO and Calera, AL production sites. The new facilities are designed to produce Sorbacal SP and Sorbacal SPS, Lhoists engineered emission control reagents that are already used widely for dry sorbent injection in Europe and Japan. LNA says the products have twice the surface area and three times the porosity of any other hydrated lime on the market today. These physical properties dramatically improve the performance of calcium hydroxide for a wide variety of acid gas control applications.
