Georgia-Pacific Adds Second Plant at Sweetwater

Georgia-Pacific of Atlanta, GA has announced that it is building a state-of-the-art gypsum wallboard production facility near Sweetwater, TX. The new, US$285 million plant will be Georgia-Pacific’s second wallboard facility in Nolan County. The new facility will be located adjacent to Georgia-Pacific’s existing gypsum wallboard plant and will incorporate state-of-the-art production processes. The two operations combined will be capable of supplying customers with more than one billion sq ft/year of gypsum wallboard.

Brent Paugh, G-P Gypsum’s president, said, “The demand for our diverse gypsum products continues to be strong, especially in Texas. By having two production lines in Nolan County, Georgia-Pacific can strengthen its capacity to meet our growing customer needs in Texas’ residential, commercial and industrial construction.”

Currently, Georgia-Pacific is preparing the site to build the technologically advanced plant, and construction on the new facility will begin immediately with start-up expected in late 2022.
